Who we are: Wharfedale Independent Midwifery Practice
Independent midwives: We are fully trained and qualified midwives who have chosen to work outside the NHS. We are self employed midwives who believe that by working in this way we are able to give one-to-one support to women in a holistic and individualised way.
Debs and Katy: We are both independent midwives who passionately believe in providing family centred care.
Debs is an Active Birth teacher having undertaken training with Janet Balaskas in London and is also training in Homeopathy for use during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. Debs has a strong belief that women should be supported in following their own natural instincts about their pregnancies, births and mothering, having also spent time on The Farm in America with Ina May Gaskin. Debs has a keen interest and experience in vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC), breech birth, waterbirths and home births.
Katy has a special interest in breastfeeding, home birth and twin birth. Katy is an Indian Head Massage practitioner and teaches baby massage. She is undertaking training in reflexology for use in pregnancy and birth. Katy has four sons including twins. She feels passionately that entering the birth process in a positive frame of mind can lead to the sensations of labour being a positive, joyful, albeit challenging, experience.
We are registered members of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and work within the rules set out by the "Midwives' Rules" and "Code of Professional Conduct".
We are also members of the Independent Midwives Association (IMA), Association of Radical Midwives (ARM), The National Childbirth Trust (NCT) and the Association for Improvements in Maternity Services (AIMS).
